Nomination Process

To be eligible for nomination students must be Masters or Ph.D. on the Main Campus or the Medical Campus. Once nominated, students are required to submit an application and applicable supplementary materials by the designated due date to be considered for an award. All applications that meet the requirements stated above will be reviewed by a committee comprised of students, faculty, and staff according to the award for which they apply.

Selection Process

Nominations and applications for the following awards are reviewed and award recipients are selected by a committee composed of faculty, staff and graduate students:

  • Graduate Student Teaching Award
  • Graduate Student Teaching Assistant Award
  • Outstanding Graduate Student Organization Award
  • Outstanding Leader in a Graduate Student Organization
  • Outstanding Student Leader in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Service Award
  • Dr. Karen Gale Exceptional PhD Student Award
  • Exceptional Masters Student Award

Nominations for the following award are reviewed and award recipients are selected by the Graduate Student Government (GradGov):

  • The Gerald M. Mara Faculty Mentoring Award
  • Distinguished Staff Award

Nominations for the following award are reviewed and award recipients are selected by the Office of Global Studies (OGS):

  • Graduate Global Citizen Award

Applications for the Graduate Student Teaching Award are evaluated according to the following criteria:

  • Teaching Philosophy and Syllabus
  • Student nominations

Applications for the Graduate Student Teaching Assistant Award are evaluated according to the following criteria:

  • Personal Statement
  • Faculty recommendation letter

Applications for the Dr. Karen Gale Exceptional Ph.D. Student Award are evaluated according to the following criteria:

  • Summary/List of annual accomplishments
  • Content of 500 word personal statement

Applications for the Exceptional Masters Student Award are evaluated according to the following criteria:

  • Summary/List of annual accomplishments
  • Content of 500 word personal statement

Applications for the Outstanding Graduate Student Organization Award are evaluated according to the following criteria:

  • Depth and breadth of group events and accomplishments
  • Content of 500 word statement

Applications for the Outstanding Leader in a Graduate Student Organization Award are evaluated according to the following criteria:

  • Depth and breadth of group events and individual accomplishments
  • Content of 500 word statement

Applications for the Outstanding Student Leader in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Service Award are evaluated according to the following criteria:

  • Content of 500 word personal statement
  • Depth and breadth of student’s contributions to diversity, equity and inclusion in the graduate school community
