Graduate Student Quiet Study Lounge
Car Barn, Room 410 (enter from the 4th Floor patio, Grad Student GOCard required)

The Graduate School of Arts & Sciences offers a Graduate Student Quiet Study Lounge in the Car Barn, Room 410. The Car Barn is located at the corner of 36th and Prospect Street, N.W., about 3 blocks from the Healy Gates. This large, comfortable study area has tables, chairs, couches, and work areas for use by graduate students. The Graduate Student Quiet Study Lounge affords graduate students a quiet area to study or to relax between classes.
The Graduate Student Quiet Study Lounge is intended to be a quiet place for study and work. It is not a social gathering place. Anyone disturbing the study and work environment of the Quiet Study Lounge will be asked to leave. Please help us maintain a pleasant and productive work area.
Access to the Graduate Student Quiet Study Lounge (Room 410) is via the rooftop patio of the Car Bar (4th Floor). Exit from the Prospect Street lobby onto the 4th floor rooftop patio, and walk back towards the right. The doorway is marked and requires a Graduate Student GOCard for entry. Handicapped students only may enter through the Graduate School Offices (Suite 400) Monday-Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm (other times, use main Graduate Lounge on the first floor). The Graduate Student Quiet Study Lounge has ample electrical connections and strong University wi-fi. There is a University h:Print print station in the Lounge, as well as a hot and cold filtered water dispenser. There is also a small sink and a microwave for use by students. Restrooms are located outside of the Quiet Study Lounge, at the entrance to the Graduate School, Suite 400 (Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm) and also on the 2nd Floor and 3rd Floor of the Car Barn. There is an ‘Einstein’s Bagels’ sandwich and coffee shop on the 2nd Floor of the Car Barn, and vending machines are located on the 3rd Floor and 2nd Floor, near the Prospect Street elevators, and on the 1st Floor near the M Street elevator. Wisemuller’s Deli and Store, and The Tombs Restaurant are located just across the street from the Car Barn.
Also located within the Graduate Student Quiet Study Lounge is the Graduate TA Conference Room (Room 412), a small room for graduate TAs to meet with on a one-to-one basis with 1-2. The small room has a table and chairs, and a white board and markers. It has several electrical outlets and strong University wi-fi. The Graduate TA Conference Room is scheduled by TAs through the Graduate Student Government (GradGov).

Graduate Student Lounge – Second Floor

The Graduate School of Arts & Sciences offers a Graduate Student Lounge in the Car Barn, Room 220. The Car Barn is located at the corner of 36th and Prospect Street, N.W., about 3 blocks from the Healy Gates. This large, comfortable study area has tables, chairs, couches, and work areas for use by graduate students. The Graduate Student Lounge, Second Floor affords graduate students a relaxing and mostly quiet area to study or to relax between classes.
This Graduate Student Lounge is intended to be a relatively quiet place for study and work, and also for relaxing. It contains a mix of large work tables with outlets, comfortable chairs, smaller table groups, and a longer counter workspace with barstool type chairs along a wall with power outlets. The second floor tall windows look out over Key Bridge and the Potomac River. Quiet is not enforced in this lounge, but users are asked to help make it a pleasant space for all. The lounge is often used as a social gathering place for small groups of classmates or colleagues, a quiet group study space, and a place to relax before, between, and after class for all graduate students at Georgetown University. (Note: students requiring a quiet area for study and scholarship should use the Graduate Student Quiet Study Lounge, Car Barn 410 or the Graduate Study Area in Lauinger Library).
Access to the Graduate Student Lounge (Room 220) is via the 2nd floor of the Car Barn, near the M Street elevator area; follow the signs. The door is marked and requires a Graduate Student GOCard for entry. This area is handicapped accessible. The Graduate Student Lounge has ample electrical connections and strong University wi-fi. There is a small sink with running water, a super-hot water dispenser (200F / 93C), as well as vending machines for snacks and cold beverages that accept cash, credit, and GOCard for payment. Restrooms are located immediately outside of the Lounge. There is an Einstein’s Bagels sandwich and coffee shop on the 2nd Floor of the Car Barn (8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.). Wisemuller’s Deli and Store, and The Tombs Restaurant are located just across the street from the Car Barn.

Graduate Student Lounge, First Floor

The Graduate Student Lounge – First Floor is located in the Car Barn, Room 100. It is open from 7:30am – 12 midnight Monday-Friday, excluding holidays. The Car Barn is located at the corner of 36th and Prospect Street, N.W., about 3 blocks from the Healy Gates. This large, comfortable study area has tables, chairs, couches, and work areas for use by graduate students. It also has a sink and a microwave. The Graduate Lounge affords graduate students a place to study, meet with other students, and to relax between classes. This is not a designated “quiet area” — but all users of the Graduate Student Lounge are asked to maintain conversations at an appropriate level and show consideration for other students.
Access to the Graduate Student Lounge – First Floor (Room CB-100) is via the 1st Floor of the Car Barn. Follow signs to “Graduate Student Lounge – Car Barn 100”. The Graduate Lounge is down 4-5 steps, and there is a handicapped wheelchair lift into the space. The Graduate Lounge has ample electrical connections and strong University wi-fi. There is a University print station in the Lounge, as well as a microwave and sink. There is a water fountain and cold filtered water dispenser located just a few steps away next to the M Street elevator. Restrooms are a short distance away on the 1st Floor (follow signs). Vending machines are located on the first floor next to the M Street elevator, as well as on the 3rd Floor and 2nd Floor, near the Prospect Street elevators. There are also a limited number of free day-use digital lockers in this Graduate Student Lounge.
Healey Family Student Center

New South Building
Hours: 7:30 a.m. – 1:00 a.m. Sunday – Thursday 7:30 a.m. – 3:00 a.m. Friday and Saturday

The Healey Family Student Center (HFSC) is located on Library Walk across from the Leo O’Donovan dining hall. This student center features study spaces, meeting rooms, and a large open Great Room with a fireplace, couches, and study tables. Also located in Healey Family Student Center are two eateries: The Bulldog Tavern and The Hilltoss. There is also, a TV lounge, music practice rooms, and dance studios. As one of the student centers on campus, Healey Family Student Center is designed for socialization, studying, and working. In addition, there are two University print stations located in the student center, both located on the ground floor.
Lauinger Library- Graduate Study Lounges
Lauinger Library, adjacent to Healy Hall
Hours: 24 hours daily

The Lauinger Library is located across from Healy Hall on Georgetown’s Main Campus, just inside the main gates (37th and O Streets, NW). There are two Graduate Study lounges located on the first and fourth floors, along with many quiet study areas located on each floor. Graduate students are also allowed to reserve carrels, lockers, and group study/discussion rooms on a first come – first served basis. There are one or more University print stations located in Lauinger Library and a student-run coffee shop on the second floor, The Midnight MUG.
In addition to the Lauinger Library, other libraries include: Blommer Science Library; Bioethics Research Library; Dahlgreen Memorial Library; Edward Bennett Williams Law Library; John Wolf International and Comparable Law Library; and the Georgetown University in Qatar Library.
