Incoming Student Spotlight: Keiti Lazo, Educational Transformation

“Growing up in DC, I always saw Georgetown as my dream school,” said Keiti Lazo (G’27), a new master’s student in the M.A. in Educational Transformation program.

Lazo was born and raised in DC with strong ties to El Salvador, her parents’ home country, and is the first in her family to pursue a graduate degree.

She earned her bachelor’s from the University of the District of Columbia in 2023 and is joining the Educational Transformation program with a concentration in Learning & Teaching to further her goal of becoming an elementary school teacher specializing in English language acquisition.

What motivated you to pursue a master’s degree? 

What motivated me to pursue my master’s degree was the opportunity to gain the knowledge I need to be a successful teacher one day, as well as a drive to become the first to earn a master’s degree in my family.

Why did you choose Georgetown University for your master’s?

Georgetown’s M.A. in Educational Transformation is a perfect fit for my academic needs. The program size makes the learning intimate and personal, and its paired residency aspect assured me that Georgetown would set me up for success.

What are you most looking forward to during your program?

I am looking forward to the new knowledge I will gain and to the community that Georgetown has to offer.

What advice would you give to others going through the graduate school application process?

My advice is to be yourself and apply early! Let Georgetown know who you are as a person. I promise those stories you may think don’t matter are the most important ones.

What are your hobbies outside of school?

My hobbies outside of school are reading fiction books, working out (specifically Hot Pilates), watching every movie that comes out in theaters and traveling the world to get new experiences.
