Car Barn – Room 100
The first of several graduate student lounges located in the Car Barn building is on the first floor in Room 100. This large, comfortable study area has tables, chairs, couches and work areas for use by both graduate and undergraduate students. It has a sink and microwave which affords students a place to study, meet with other students and relax between classes. This is not a designated “quiet area” — but all users of the student lounge are asked to maintain conversations at an appropriate level and show consideration for other students.
You can access this study space via the first floor of Car Barn. Follow signs to “Car Barn 100.” The lounge is down four to five steps, and there is a handicapped wheelchair lift into the space. It has ample electrical connections, strong university Wi-Fi and a print station. There are also a limited number of free day-use digital lockers.
There is a water fountain and cold filtered water dispenser located just a few steps away next to the M Street elevator. Vending machines are also on the first floor next to the M Street elevator, as well as on the second and third floors near the Prospect Street elevators. Restrooms are a short distance away on the first floor (follow signs).

Car Barn – Room 220
The second graduate student lounge in Car Barn is Room 220. This large, comfortable study area has tables, chairs and work areas for use by graduate students. This lounge on the second floor affords graduate students a mostly quiet area to study or relax between classes.
This lounge is intended to be a relatively quiet place for study. It contains a mix of large work tables with outlets, comfortable chairs, smaller table groups and a longer counter workspace with barstool type chairs along a wall with power outlets. There are tall windows that look out over Key Bridge and the Potomac River. Quiet study is not enforced in this lounge, but students are asked to help make it a pleasant space for all. The lounge is often used as a social gathering place for small groups of classmates or colleagues, a quiet group study space, and a place to relax before, between and after class for all graduate students at Georgetown University.
Access to Room 220 is via the second floor of the Car Barn, near the M Street elevator; follow the signs. The door is marked and requires a Graduate Student GOCard for entry. This area is handicapped accessible.
The Graduate Student Lounge has ample electrical connections and strong university Wi-Fi. There is a small sink with running water, a super-hot water dispenser (200°F/93°C), as well as vending machines for snacks and cold beverages that accept cash, credit and GOCard for payment. Restrooms are located immediately outside of the lounge. There is an Einstein’s Bagels sandwich and coffee shop on the second floor (open from 8 a.m.–6 p.m. during the school year). Wisemiller’s Grocery & Deli and The Tombs Restaurant are located just across the street from Car Barn.
Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m.-12:00 midnight (except university holidays and as posted)
Car Barn – Room 410
A third study space in the Car Barn is the quiet study lounge in Room 410. This large, comfortable study area has tables, chairs, couches and work areas for use by graduate students. The quiet study lounge affords graduate students a quiet area to study or relax between classes.
This quiet study lounge is intended to be a quiet place for study and work. It is not a social gathering place. Anyone disturbing the study and work environment of this space will be asked to leave. Please help us maintain a pleasant and productive work area.
Access to the quiet study lounge is via the fourth floor rooftop patio of the Car Barn. Exit right from the Prospect Street lobby onto the rooftop patio and walk back towards the right. The doorway is marked and requires a Graduate Student GOCard for entry. Handicapped students only may enter through the Graduate School Dean’s Office (Suite 400) between the hours of 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday (at other times, please use the Graduate Lounge on the first floor).
The graduate student quiet study lounge has ample electrical connections, strong university wi-fi and a university h:Print print station.
