About the Program
Designed for early-career working professionals, the Department of Health Management and Policy offers a two-year, part-time, 42 credit, Master of Science in Health Systems Administration (MHSA). Structured as a blended program of study, aspiring leaders benefit from the flexibility of distance learning and on-campus, face-to-face instruction.
Led by an esteemed faculty comprised of researchers, scholars, and practitioners, the program equips future leaders with essential skills to innovate and lead in the wake of change and uncertainty. Using a rigorous health systems approach, cohort members operationalize the interconnectedness and oftentimes competing interests of diverse stakeholders in the healthcare ecosystem. Systems thinking and applied learning techniques allow learners to examine the social, technical, economic, and policy forces that shape the delivery of care and inform the management agenda. Rooted in the Jesuit value of cura personalis (care for the whole person), students undergo structured leadership development experiences – allowing them to unearth their strengths and explore the critical role they can play in improving the patient experience, reducing costs, and advancing the health of communities.
Accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME), the curriculum is competency-based and practice-centered. Distinguishing features include: small class sizes that foster close relationships with faculty members; networking and exposure to nationally renowned industry leaders and subject matter experts; on-the-job experiential projects; affiliations with close to 400 members of the alumni community; comparative health system global experiences, as well as unparalleled moments to leverage the richness of the Nation’s Capital.
