FAQ – Questions and Answers

Read these first.

Question 1: How do I know if I am eligible for merit-based financial aid?

Answer 1: Graduate programs assess scholarship eligibility based on merit alone and not financial need and make recommendations for merit aid funding directly to the Graduate School.

Question 2: Can I receive an increased merit aid scholarship?

Answer 2: Each graduate program determines merit aid eligibility, so you must refer back to your program’s website regarding eligibility requirements.

Question 3: I am a Ph.D. student receiving merit aid. Do I receive coverage for student health insurance?

Answer 3: Ph.D. students who are admitted with a five year funding package receive a scholarship to cover the individual student health insurance plan when they receive stipend support at the standard Ph.D. stipend rate. For more information about merit aid obligations related to the receipt of merit aid please refer to the Recipient Obligations Statement policy found on the Graduate School website:  https://drive.google.com/file/d/1u1soCF8wdYnGg9FLZ70ZHY44pBvACJki/view
