Commencement FAQs Anchor

Commencement FAQs

UPDATE:  See the recent announcement about the Graduate In-Person Commencement Ceremony to be held on Monday, May 24, 2021 at National’s Park stadium in Washington, DC.

Q. What about the postponed event for the Class of 2020?
A. We know members of our Class of 2020 may be eager to be together for a celebration on campus and that the progress of the pandemic has delayed your return longer than we originally anticipated. As we look ahead, we see promising signs about the overall trajectory of the pandemic and the possibility of a return to our regular activities in the coming months. Our hope is to begin actively planning with the Class of 2020 and class representatives for a future gathering on campus to honor and celebrate your class. We will be in communication as soon as possible with further details.

Q. Can you tell me more about the in-person opportunity mentioned in President DeGioia’s recent email?
A. Students will be receiving more information about these opportunities from their schools and programs in the coming weeks. These in-person opportunities will be for the graduates only. We regret we cannot invite families and guests to campus this year, and discourage anyone from outside of Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia from travelling to campus.  The University has recently announced that there will be a Graduate In-Person Commencement Ceremony held on Monday, May 24, 2021 at the National’s Park Stadium in Washington DC.  See the information elsewhere on this page, and in emails sent directly to graduating students.

Q. If we want to order caps and gowns and other commencement items, how do we do that?
A. Please see the section above labelled “Academic Regalia & Commemorative Items” for information or go to the Georgetown/Jostens website to order.

Q. What about printed announcements?
A. Please go to the Georgetown/Jostens printed announcements website to order.

Q. How will I get my diploma?
A. Diplomas will be mailed to students directly from our diploma printing partner. The mailing address used will be the one on your graduation application. It is not possible to update the diploma address in MyAccess, but you will receive an email message in May giving you the opportunity to provide a different mailing address (if needed) that will be valid over the summer.

Q. Where can I find a translation of the Latin printed on my diploma?
A: Please go here for a translation of your diploma.
