The M.S. in Biomedical Science Policy and Advocacy provides students with core courses in the biomedical sciences (microbiology, immunology, virology, biochemistry), introduces the topics of science policy and advocacy, and presents students with in-depth studies in various science policy areas and issues via the STIA (Science, Technology, and International Affairs) Division of the Edmund E. Walsh School of Foreign Service.

This is an interdisciplinary program that invites applicants from all undergraduate backgrounds.

Degree Requirements

  • Satisfactory completion of 30 credit hours of course work.  
  • A final GPA of 3.0 or above is required for graduation.

The 500-word academic statement of purpose should describe your academic and professional goals and their fit with the biomedical graduate program.

General Qualifications and Prerequisites

  • Minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) is required, though 3.5 or higher is preferred
  • GRE General Test scores of 1300 (combined) or higher for the Verbal and Quantitative sections, and 4.5 or higher on the Analytical Writing section, are preferred
  • GRE Subject Test (Biology, Chemistry or Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology) is suggested, but not required; score of 650 or higher preferred
  • Previous research experience
  • Publications (preferred)

GRE - GRADUATE RECORD EXAM

Results of the General Test of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) are not required for applicants. Test scores must be received by the application deadline date. Applicants should allow six to eight weeks from the test date for the reporting of scores to the institution. Applications will not be considered without GRE scores.  Georgetown University's GRE score reporting code is 5244. ENGLISH PROFICIENCY:  TOEFL / IELTS

All applicants are required to demonstrate a level of proficiency in the English language sufficient to meet the admission requirement of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. Proficiency can be demonstrated by the receipt of a bachelor's or advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in the United States or from a university where English is the primary language of instruction (please note that applicants receiving degrees at universities in U.S. territories, such as Puerto Rico, are required to submit the TOEFL or IELTS unless the primary language of instruction at the institution is English). 

All other applicants must achieve at least a minimum score on either the TOEFL or IELTS test. Test scores must be received by the application deadline date. Applicants should allow six to eight weeks from the test date for the reporting of scores to the institution. Applications will not be considered without TOEFL/IELTS scores.
