Visas & Financial Certification
At the time of admission, all foreign applicants and U.S. permanent residents will be directed to the online International Student Immigration Questionnaire provided by the Office of International Programs (OIP). This questionnaire must be returned to OIP even if the student does not require a Certificate of Eligibility (Form I-20 or DS-2019) from Georgetown University.
If a Certificate of Eligibility is needed, international students will also be required to provide financial documentation showing sufficient funding to support their studies while in the United States. The documented financial resources must equal or exceed the annual educational and subsistence costs established each year by the University. In order to allow sufficient time for the Certificate of Eligibility to be issued and for the student to apply for a visa, the questionnaire and financial documentation must be returned to OIP at least eight weeks prior to the time the student intends to travel to the United States.
International students admitted as special students, certificate program students, or part-time students to a degree program should be aware that they are not eligible to receive an I-20 form from Georgetown University. However, a non-U.S. citizen already in the United States and holding a lawful immigration status that permits part-time study (such as A-1, G-4, L-2, H-1B, H-4 or permanent residency), may study at Georgetown while maintaining their current immigration status. Please feel free to contact the Office of International Programs with any questions regarding visa eligibility.
