- International Dissertation Research Fellowship Program: provides support for social scientists and humanists conducting dissertation field research in all areas and regions of the world. Up to fifty fellowships will be awarded in the year 2005. The program is administered by the SSRC in partnership with the American Council of Learned Societies. Funds are provided by the Andrew W. The IDRF awards enable doctoral candidates of proven achievement and outstanding potential to use their knowledge of distinctive cultures, societies, languages, economies, polities, and histories, in combination with their disciplinary training, to address issues that transcend their disciplines or area specializations. The program supports scholarship that treats place and setting in relation to broader phenomena as well as in particular historical and cultural contexts. Standard fellowships will provide support for nine to twelve months in the field, plus travel expenses; no award will be granted for less than nine months at a research site. Award will be for approximately $20,000. Applicants must complete all Ph.D. requirements except fieldwork and dissertation by the time the fellowship begins. The fellowship must be held for a single continuous period within the eighteen months between July 2007 and December 2008. Deadline: application due November 1, 2006
- Eurasia Title VIII Fellowship Program: offers several fellowships at both the predoctoral and postdoctoral levels for research, writing, training, and curriculum development on or related to any of the New States of Eurasia, the Soviet Union, and/or the Russian Empire. Deadline: applications and deadline available on the program page after September 1, 2006
- Title VIII Dissertation Workshops: provide full-time graduate students, from relevant social science and humanities disciplines whose projects examine Eurasia, with the opportunity to receive creative and critical input on their dissertation projects and to address the workshop's theme more generally. Deadline: April 24, 2006
