The Graduate Student Organization (GSO)

Welcome Message from the GSO

Dear Incoming Georgetown Graduate Student,

The Graduate Student Organization (GSO) extends our warmest greetings and congratulations as you embark upon a new academic journey here at Georgetown University. The GSO is the central student body among the vast array of disciplines in the Graduate School. We are the Graduate Student voice in the greater university community, and encourage your participation in the many academic, professional and social activities we offer during the year.

The GSO works to assist graduate students in their academic and professional development. The budget allotted to the GSO by the Graduate School gives us the opportunity to provide various types of support with this goal in mind. Last year we helped many new clubs and organizations in their development, and were able to give funding to these and existing groups to sponsor lectures, seminars and cultural events to enhance and enrich the lives of the graduate student body. We encourage you to explore the various opportunities there are on campus that bring together students with similar interests. We also encourage the growth of new clubs, and will do our best to assist you if you would like to share your knowledge, experience and culture with your fellow students.

Providing fun and entertaining social events are an important part of the GSO, and a way for you to meet new students outside your department. In past years, our social calendar has included intramural tournaments, Student Happy Hour, Student Speed-Dating, City Expeditions, Washington Nationals Baseball games, and much more!

We sincerely hope that you will become involved in the GSO and GSO-sponsored events this fall. If you would like to bring your ideas, concerns, talents and humor to our organization, contact your department for information on becoming a GSO representative. We also have unlimited possibilities to join various committees that are an integral part of our mission. You will be able to meet with us a the Graduate Student Orientation BBQ on August 29, 2006 and can also contact us via email (see below).

Welcome to Georgetown, and we look forward to meeting you soon!

Sincerely,

The Graduate Student Organization Officers
