Omohundro Institute of Early American History and Culture

The Omohundro Institute, jointly founded by the College of William and Mary and Colonial Williamsburg, is currently accepting applications for the following competitions:

  • Institute/Andrew W. Mellon Post-doctoral Research Fellowship:  provides one full year of support to revise the applicant's first book manuscript and the Institute's commitment to publish the resulting study.  Fellows are expected to devote their time exclusively to research and writing and to work closely with the editorial staff.  The fellowship carries a stipend of $45,000 and a comprehensive benefits package; in addition, office facilities at the Institute and some travel funds for conferences and research are available.   Deadline:  application due by November 1, 2008
  • Institute/NEH Post-doctoral Fellowship:  provides a two-year period of support in any area of early American studies to begin July 1, 2005.  A principal criterion for selection is that the candidate’s dissertation or other manuscript have significant potential as a distinguished, book-length contribution to scholarship.  A substantial portion of the work must be submitted with the application.  The fellowship carries a stipend of $40,000; in addition, office facilities at the Institute and some travel funds for conferences and research are available.  Deadline:  application due by November 1, 2008
