Georgetown-MIDEPLAN Fellowships: Overview
A partnership between the Georgetown University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and Chile’s Ministry of Planning (MIDEPLAN) to support doctoral education.
Georgetown-MIDEPLAN Fellowship Program
The Georgetown University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences is pleased to announce a new fellowship opportunity available to Chilean students for doctoral studies in the sciences, social sciences, and humanities. El Ministerio de Planificación (MIDEPLAN), an agency of the government of Chile, and Georgetown University will jointly fund the tuition, stipend, and fees of qualified Chilean doctoral students for up to a maximum of five years.
Georgetown University
Founded in 1789, Georgetown University is the oldest Catholic and Jesuit university in the United States. It is a major international research university that embodies its founding principles in the diversity of its students, faculty, and staff; its commitment to justice and the common good; its intellectual openness; and its international character. Located in Washington, D.C., Georgetown provides access to the many resources that the nation’s capital has to offer, including its political institutions, high-tech corridor, cultural riches, museums and performance centers.
El Ministerio de Planificación (MIDEPLAN)
MIDEPLAN was created in the 1960s to serve as a centralized structure within the Chilean government for planning at the national level. Although MIDEPLAN’s structure has evolved over the years, its purpose continues to be the development and implementation of policies and programs for national and regional development. In 1981, the Chilean Ministry of Education established a program of special scholarships for graduate studies abroad in order to improve Chilean universities and professional institutes. This scholarship program is now administered by MIDEPLAN, which partners with internationally recognized institutions of higher education to support the graduate studies of qualified Chilean students.
