Hispanic Theological Initiative

The HTI is currently accepting applications for the following grant programs:
  • Doctoral Grants:  a total of four outstanding Latina or Latino graduate students will be awarded grants in the amount of $15,000 each year during the life of the program.  This award is for full-time doctoral students (Ph.D., Ed.D., Th.D. or equivalent only) and requires that the student's institution partner with HTI in providing the student with a tuition scholarship.   The award is aimed at supporting the student for a maximum of two years of full-time course-work.  If an applicant applies during the first year of doctoral coursework, the HTI award will be for a one-year period only.  However, this award may not be applied to the year the student is doing his/her doctoral exams and therefore, not taking courses.   In addition to monetary support, the HTI also will provide the recipients with a Latina or Latino faculty member to serve as a mentor to monitor and encourage the student's progress in the doctoral process.  Students must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents to be eligible for consideration.

Deadline:  application due by December 7, 2006.  Additional information regarding the application process may be found on the HTI web site
  • Special Mentoring Awards:  provides six awardees with a mentor each for one year and with $1,000 networking funds that are set-aside for networking activities.  Eligible students are those who: 1) have finished all of their Ph.D. course-work and are preparing for exams or, 2) have been awarded a stipend, which will be withdrawn or diminished if the student receives other funds.  As part of the networking strategy, the Special Mentoring Awardees will be required to attend the Summer Workshop and a regional meeting. They will receive a subscription to Apuntes and The Journal of Hispanic/Latino Theology and monies to apply for memberships to either AETH or ACHTUS.

Deadline:  application due by January 11, 2007.  Additional information regarding the application process may be found on the HTI web site
  • Dissertation Year Grants:  provides up to six one-year dissertation fellowships per year throughout the life of the program to applicants who are ABD (All But Dissertation).  Each award will be for an average of $16,000 for a period of one academic year; it is expected that the applicant completes his/her dissertation by the end of this time-frame.  This grant is not renewable and cannot be extended beyond the designated award year.

Deadline:  application due by January 11, 2007.  Additional information regarding the application process may be found on the HTI web site
