Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolian Area
The Consortium coordinates the following programs:
- Philip M. Dearborn Fellowship for 2007-08: in recognition of the late Phil Dearborn, a leading national authority on urban finance, intergovernmental finance, and regional economic development, this Fellowship will be awarded for proposed doctoral–level research dealing with issues of direct and specific relevance to the Greater Washington metro area, including, without limitation, issues of economics, public and private finance, education, transportation, law enforcement, social welfare, housing, and regional and community development. It is expected that the research will rely to a significant extent on information and data derived from or relating to the Washington DC metro area. The fellowship carries a $10,000 stipend.
Students interested in applying for this fellowship must be enrolled at least half-time at a Consortium institution at the Ph.D. level. Preference will be given to candidates who have completed the major portion of course work necessary for the degree and preference will be given to those who are in or entering the dissertation phase of work. This research may be used to further the student's dissertation. Deadline: by 5:00 p.m. March 30, 2007
- Cosmos Club Foundation Grants-in-Aid to Young Scholars for 2006-07: Sponsored by the Cosmos Club Foundation, the purpose of the program is to provide small grants to meet specific research needs not covered by other supporting funds. Examples of appropriate needs are small items of equipment (ordinarily expendable), special supplies, travel to research facilities or to attend relevant meetings, etc. Specifically excluded is general financial support, tuition, living expenses (except in connection with supported travel), and expenses that should have been foreseen and provided for in planning the degree program. Applicants must be enrolled in a program leading to a graduate degree (Masters or Doctoral) in a member institution of the Consortium of Universities of the Washington Metropolitan Area, on a full-time or part-time basis or conducting research for thesis/dissertation after completion of required course work for the degree. Deadline: November 3, 2006
- The Economic Club of Washington, D.C. Doctoral Research Fellowships for 2007-08: In cooperation with the Consortium, The Economic Club of Washington is offering its 15th Annual Doctoral Research Fellowships. Two $10,000 stipends will be awarded to two doctoral-level students from a Consortium institution to support independent research in areas of interest to The Economic Club of Washington, which include economics, finance, international trade or business. The award will be for the 20042005academic year. Students interested in applying for this fellowship must be enrolled at least half-time at a Consortium institution at the Ph.D. level. Candidates should have completed the major portion of course work necessary for the degree and preference will be given to those who are in or entering the dissertation phase of work. This research may be used to further the student's dissertation. Deadline: by 5:00 p.m. on March 30, 2007
