Society for the Humanities at Cornell University

The Society for the Humanities offers the following fellowship opportunities:

  • Society for the Humanities Postdoctoral Fellowship:  six to eight postdoctoral teaching-research fellowships of $45,000 each on an annual basis; applicants living outside North America are eligible for an additional $2,000 to assist with travel costs.  Persons receiving the Ph.D. by January 1, 2007 are eligible.  For the 2008-09, the focal theme is "Water, A Critical Concept for the Humanities." 

  • Mellon Postdoctoral Fellowship:  Postdoctoral teaching-research fellowships in the humanities, each awarded for the one-year period beginning July 2008, offer stipends of $45,000. While in residence at Cornell, postdoctoral fellows hold department affiliation and have limited teaching duties and the opportunity for scholarly work. Mellon Foundation postdoctoral fellowships are available in four areas of specialization:   Asian Studies, History of Art and Visual Studies, Philosophy,  and Romance Studies.  Applicants who receive the Ph.D. by June 30, 2008 are eligible.
