The ACLS is currently accepting applications for the following grant and fellowship opportunities:
- NEW PROGRAM! Digital Innovation Fellowships in the Humanities -- supported with the generous assistance of The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, this new program invites applications to pursue digitally based research projects in all disciplines of the humanities and humanities-related social sciences. It is hoped that projects of successful applicants will help advance digital humanistic scholarship by broadening understanding of its nature and exemplifying the robust infrastructure necessary for creating further such works. The program is intended to support an academic year dedicated to work on a major scholarly project that takes a digital form. Projects might include but are not limited to: digital research archives, new media representations of extant data, innovative databases, and digital tools that further humanistic research. However, ACLS does not support creative works (e.g. novels or films), textbooks, straightforward translations, or purely pedagogical projects. Deadline: applications must be submitted via the OFA online system by October 2, 2008
- Fellowship Programs (including the ACLS/SSRC/NEH International and Area Studies Fellowships and ACLS/New York Public Library Fellowships) -- The fellowship programs support postdoctoral research in all disciplines of the humanities and the humanities-related social sciences. Fellowships are intended to allow scholars to devote from six to twelve continuous months to full time research and writing. They may be held concurrently with other awards up to an amount equal to the candidate's current academic year salary. Tenure of the grant may begin no earlier than July 1, 2005 and no later than February 1, 2006. Fellowship stipends are set at varying levels, depending on academic rank. Ryskamp Fellowships -- These fellowships support advanced assistant and untenured associate professors in the humanities and related social sciences (anthropology, archaeology, art history, economics, geography, history, languages and literatures, law, linguistics, musicology, philosophy, political science, psychology, religion, sociology, etc.) whose scholarly contributions have advanced their fields and who have well designed and carefully developed plans for new research. The fellowships are intended to support an academic year of research (nine months), plus an additional summer's research (two months) if justified. Deadline: applications must be submitted via the OFA online system by October 2, 2008
