The AAUW Educational Foundation supports women at critical stages of their careers, and those pursuing professions where women are underrepresented.  Currently, the Association is accepting applications for the following competitions:

  • American Fellowships:  support women scholars seeking funds for postdoctoral research leave from accredited institutions as well as summer or short-term research publication grants.  Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.  Candidates are evaluated on the basis of scholarly excellence, teaching experience, and active commitment to helping women and girls through service in their communities, professions, or fields of research.  Deadline:  November 15, 2008

  • Career Development Grants:  support women who hold a bachelor's degree and are preparing to advance their careers, change careers, or re-enter the work force. Special consideration is given to AAUW members, women of color, and women pursuing their first advanced degree or credentials in nontraditional fields.  NB:  Graduate M.A. students only!  Deadline:  December 15, 2008

  • International Fellowships:  awarded for full-time study or research to women, who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents, to conduct postgraduate study at accredited institutions.  Deadline:  December 1, 2008
  • Community Action Grantsprovide funds to individuals, AAUW branches and AAUW state organizations as well as local community-based nonprofit organizations for innovative programs or non-degree research projects that promote education and equity for women and girls.  Deadline:  January 15, 2009

Selected Professions Fellowships:  support women who intend to pursue a full-time course of study at accredited institutions during the fellowship year in one of the designated degree programs (refer to program page) where women's participation traditionally has been low.  Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents.  Two specific awards are available:  Master's and First Professions Awards and Engineering Dissertation Awards.     Deadline:  January 10, 2009

  • University Scholar-in-Residence Award:  supports women scholars to undertake and disseminate research on gender and equity for women and girls.   Up to $100,000 for a two-year project, depending on its nature, will be awarded; however, proposals must show significant institutional cost sharing beyond basic indirect costs.   Interested candidates should review the award's Prospectus and Schedule information for proposal preparation guidelines.  Deadlines:  Not currently available
