RAND offers the following funding opportunities:
- RAND Fellows in Population Studies and the Study of Aging Program: open to outstanding junior scholars in demographic and aging research looking to sharpen their analytic skills, learn to communicate research results effectively, and advance their research agendae. Housed within the Labor and Population Program, the program blends formal and informal training and extensive collaboration with distinguished researchers in a variety of disciplines. In a typical year, the program will accept one fellow per year in Population Studies and one fellow per year in the Study of Aging. Fellowships are for one year, renewable for a second. Each fellow receives a yearly stipend of $47,000 to $61,000, depending on post-doctoral experience. Fellows must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, and must have completed a Ph.D. (or its equivalent) in a relevant discipline before they begin the program. NB: During the 2007 cycle, the program will offer only fellowship in the study of aging. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Deadline: application due by TBA
- Transatlantic Postdoctoral Fellowship for International Relations and Security: open to candidates who have recently received their doctorate in social and political sciences or economics and whose research focuses on topics of international relations and security. Fellowships are granted for 24 months with a view to preparing Fellows for an international career in policy-oriented research. Fellows have three eight-month stays at research institutions or think tanks participating in the program – at least one on the Eastern, and one on the Western side of the Atlantic. Participating institutes include the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, Institut français des relations internationales (IFRI), European Union Institute for Security Studies (EUISS), RAND Corporation, Chatham House, SAIS Center for Transatlantic Relations, the Institute for Strategic and International Studies (IEEI), the Center for International Relations (CIR), and the German Institute for International and Security Affairs/ Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik (SWP). Fellows will have a supervising researcher at each host institute while being integrated into the relevant research units or projects. The fellowship consists of a monthly stipend of € 2,000 and a one-time travel allowance of €3,500 for travel to and from the host institutions. Deadline: application and materials due by TBA
- Graduate Student Summer Associate Program: designed for fulltime students who have completed at least two years of graduate work leading to a doctorate or professional degree (e.g., law or medical degree, professional engineer certificate). Approximately 25 students in a wide range of academic disciplines participate in the program each year. U.S. citizenship is not necessary except for positions that require security clearances. Summer associates typically work at RAND for a 12-week period. In addition to a stipend, students also are given the opportunity to conduct independent research that can be completed during the three months they are at RAND. Deadline: application process for summer 2008 is from October 2007 until January 2008
