Georgetown-CONACYT Fellowships: Admissions and Application Procedures

Note: CONACYT fellowships are only available to citizens of Mexico.

Students interested in being considered for a Georgetown-CONACYT fellowship must apply separately to both Georgetown and CONACYT.

Georgetown Application Procedures:

Applications to Georgetown should be submitted directly to the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. Applicants must submit their application online and should indicate that they are applying in connection with the CONACYT program.
Individual applicants are responsible for providing all of the materials required for the evaluation of their application, including TOEFL and GRE scores (where required), writing samples (where required), and letters of recommendation. Applications will be evaluated according to the criteria established by each Georgetown program. The applicant is encouraged to review the relevant program’s Web page to find specific information on application requirements and deadlines, as they vary by program. Recommendations to admit rest with the program to which the student is applying.
Online application information, along with other valuable material for prospective graduate students can be found at: http://grad.georgetown.edu/pages/prospective_students.cfm.

CONACYT Application Procedures:

CONACYT has a separate application process, which students must also complete in order to be considered for a fellowship. Detailed information on CONACYT’s application process can be found at: http://www.conacyt.mx/becas/Aspirantes/Becas_AspirantesExtranjero.html

Deadlines:

Georgetown application deadlines vary by program, although most fall in January or February for studies beginning the following August.  Applications are due to CONACYT in mid-March. Please note that applicants for the Georgetown-CONACYT fellowship MUST apply by CONACYT’s first deadline.

Registering for the GRE and TOEFL Exams:

GRE: Applicants are strongly encouraged to register for the GRE and TOEFL exams as soon as possible, and no later than October 1, since spaces can fill-up quickly as the application deadlines approach. In Mexico, the GRE is only offered in a computer-based format, and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Testing centers are located in Guadalajara, Mexico City, and Monterrey. Additional information can be found at:   http://www.ets.org

TOEFL: The computer-based TOEFL exam can also be taken at the centers listed above. Applicants may also opt to take the paper-based TOEFL exam, which is offered at several locations throughout Mexico. For information on how to register for either the computer or paper-based TOEFL, please go tohttp://www.toefl.org
