Upon selection, approval, and admission by both Georgetown and CONACYT, fellowship recipients will be provided the following support, contingent upon satisfactory progress in the degree program:
Tuition: While the student is completing coursework (typically two years), CONACYT will provide full tuition and required student fees (e.g. Yates Fee). Once the student has completed coursework, Georgetown will provide tuition and required student fees.
Stipend: For the first three years of study, CONACYT will provide its then standard stipend paid directly to the student on a monthly basis. In 2006, the CONACYT stipend was $1000 per month. Please visit the CONACYT website for the current levels of stipend support. During these initial three years, Georgetown will provide a supplemental stipend in an amount that, in combination with the CONACYT stipend, sums to the then current annual stipend award offered by Georgetown's Graduate School of Arts & Sciences. Please visit the Graduate School’s website for the current levels of stipend support. For up to two subsequent years, Georgetown will pay a stipend of at least the amount of the then current level of standard stipend award offered by the Graduate School of Arts & Sciences.
Medical Insurance: Medical insurance is required for all doctoral students at Georgetown University. For the first three years of study, CONACYT will provide support for medical insurance at its then current rate of insurance support. (In 2006, CONACYT offered $715/year for medical insurance). During those initial three years, should the student elect to purchase the individual medical insurance plan offered by Georgetown to its graduate students, Georgetown will cover the difference between the amount CONACYT provides for medical insurance and the actual cost of the individual insurance plan. For up to two subsequent years, Georgetown will pay the total cost of the individual insurance plan offered by Georgetown.
Total support will not exceed five years. During those five years, fellowship recipients must meet the normal departmental academic requirements and maintain satisfactory degree progress standards as set by the department and the Graduate School. Failure to do so may result in termination of degree candidacy and/or termination of financial support.
